Left-shift click inside a folder and click “open a command window” to open a local cmd window and run commands from there.

Access bootloader by powering the phone off and then holding the power button and the down button.

Install a custom recovery by flashing it. Have the phone in fastboot and connected to the pc. You will need fastboot.exe in the same folder as the recovery image. Then enter in command window : fastboot flash recovery recoveryname.img

Prerequisites:

Please use TWRP. I have not used CWM ever since I tried TWRP. Always make sure to use the latest version of TWRP. Which can be found here. ( I use openrecovery-twrp-2.8.5.0-a5.img )

1) Have TWRP installed as your custom recovery ; Boot Unlocked

2) You need the OTA Lollipop update for the HTC Desire 816 – 1.4 GB

3) Here is a folder containing everything else that you will need.

Make sure to keep all files together in the same folder.

4) Adb Drivers and HTC Drivers have to be up to date

Procedure:

Backup.

Always backup your phone before doing anything that could possibly do damage to it. Whenever you do a backup always put a copy on your PC. Go to your custom recovery and use backup option.

Wipe.

Now you can -> wipe -> advanced wipe -> dalvik, cache, data, system

Flash and Lock.

Reboot to Bootloader *Do not install supersu*

Select fastboot and connect to your pc

Flash the StockRecovery.img file

Run oem lock.bat

Run.

Put your phone into bootloader -> fastboot -> connect to pc

Open the OTA Lollipop Update that you downloaded and wait.

After the update finishes that phone may lock onto white HTC screen. Simply shut phone off and turn it back on. Now just wait as your apps update and voila!

NOTE: First Boot takes about eight minutes on my phone, be patient!

NOTE 2: If you end up having issues, always go back and try wiping. Start fresh and see if things don't improve.

NOTE 3: It'll take awhile for everything to settle down. Especially after installing gapps and syncing accounts. Give it a few minutes to settle and reboot a couple times. The system will speed up after that.

Q: What Baseband will this work on?
A: It works with all current Baseband, you do NOT need to update your Baseband, I'm still on ZV4
Q: Do I need the VM670NH recovery to install this ROM?
A: No, it's the one I use and recommend
Q: Can I use an A2SD script with this ROM?
A: No need...the rom will move your apps and dalvik to the EXT partition on your SDcard, if you have an EXT partition!
Q: Do I need an SDcard with EXT partition to install this ROM?
A: No, but it is very recommend to have one.
Q: Why was so much removed from your ROM?
A: This OS is so big it leaves very little room on your phone for your stuff.
Q: What do you mean by 'foreign'?
A: Anything other than English and Spanish.

Q: Why was Dalvik-Cache moved back to the Data partition?
A: Gapps did not like it being on the SD-EXT partition and you would get the 'Optimizing app x of xx' with every boot up. NOTE: Dalvik does get really big in JB, you may run out of room in Data if you have a lot of apps.

Q: What is with the new custom Gapps?
A: The ROM and Gapps are way to big for this phone, both needed to be slimmed down in order for them to install correctly with them as functional as possibly. Gmail was removed from the Gapps, but it is downloadable from the Play Store. Google Now is partially functional and Voice Search is totally broken.

Q: Why did you change scripts?
A: The A2SD++ script is written better, which allowed me to put Dalvik-Cache back on your SD-EXT partition without any issue. I did edit out parts of the A2SD++ because there is no easy way to erase the Apps-Private and Apps-Data info from the SD-EXT, so I wanted to keep the info on the phones DATA partition. Keeping the old info when flashing a new ROM creates issues, just like when you do a dirty flash. Also I found the ZipAlign did not work as well as the one I was using, so I removed that part of the code from the new script.
